[Fully Booked] Meditation Essentials Course

A Five-Week Introduction to Mindfulness
and Loving-Kindness Meditation Course

Starts Tuesday 8th October 2024, 7pm – 9.15pm

Meditation is a means of transforming the mind. It helps us change the way we relate to ourselves and the world around us.

On this course we teach two meditation techniques, which consist of simple but effective practices drawn from the Buddhist tradition and were originally taught by the Buddha himself. They complement each other and can be learned by anyone, and you don’t have to be a Buddhist to benefit from them!

For more on meditation, mindfulness and loving-kindness, see our meditation page.

Over the five weeks we will cover:

  1. Meditation & Mindfulness

    • What is Meditation?
    • Introduction to Mindfulness
    • Meditation Posture
    • The Mindfulness of Breathing

  2. Exploring Aspects of Mindfulness

  3. The Development of Loving-Kindness

  4. Working with the Mind: Distraction and Absorption

  5. Taking Meditation into the World
    • Mindfulness and Loving-Kindness off the Cushion
    • Continuing your Practice after the Course

Prasannadeva first came through the doors of the Dublin Buddhist Centre in 2012. He became a committed Buddhist in 2013 and was ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order in 2021.

Having studied Fine Art he was keen to find a context where his love of Western art, film and music was considered an important aspect of the spiritual life, regardless of whether it is an Eastern tradition or not, and felt right at home here. Prasannadeva has taught meditation courses with Trinity Meditation Society, has been involved with leading Young Buddhist events and is now leading Buddhism and meditation courses. He is currently working as Centre Manager.

Sadayasihi learned to meditate in 2007 in the Dublin Buddhist Centre while she was training to be a solicitor, having had an interest in Buddhism since she was a teenager.

She was ordained in 2016 and is current chair of the charity that runs the DBC, as well as leading a study group and teaching classes.

Satyaprapta first came to the DBC back in 2006 and has been meditating ever since. He was ordained in 2024 and lives in the Men’s Buddhist Community.

Satyaprapta works as a German Translator and volunteers at the DBC on the Support Team and Shubha Vihara Fundraising Team.

Suitable for: Anyone interested in learning how to practice Buddhist Meditation.

No experience of meditation is necessary.

If you have done some meditation before (as most people have) you will benefit from this thorough training in the art of meditation.
