Sailing the Worldly Winds

Five Week Buddhism Course

Starts Wednesday 7th October 2026, 7.15pm – 9.30pm

Led by Varabandhu and Satyaprapta

The Buddha’s teaching of the eight worldly winds describes how we are buffeted about while trying to make our way in the world.

Tossed about by these winds – gain and loss, praise and blame, pleasure and pain, fame and disrepute – it is easy to lose all direction, confidence, and sense of purpose.

The Buddha had clear guidance on how to rise above these ‘worldly winds’ – facing them uncompromisingly, and entering through the ‘doorways to freedom’ that allow us to become equanimous in the face of them.

And when we do this and are no longer at the mercy of the worldly winds, we are more able to live in tune with life’s deepest meaning.

Varabandhu first came through the doors of the Dublin Buddhist Centre in March 2012 to learn to meditate as a response to suffering. He soon found that regularly practicing meditation positively transformed his mind and his life and in 2014 he became a committed Buddhist. Seven years later he deepened that commitment by being ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order. Varabandhu has been leading meditation courses, Buddhist study and retreats since 2021.

Satyaprapta first came to the DBC back in 2006 and has been meditating ever since. He was ordained in 2024 and given the name Satyaprapta which means ‘He who is accomplished in the Truth.’Satyaprapta works as a German Translator and volunteers at the DBC on the Support Team and Shubha Vihara Fundraising Team.
