Meditation Essentials Course
A Five-Week Introduction to Mindfulness
and Loving-Kindness Meditation Course
Starts Wednesday 24th July 2024, 7.15pm – 9.30pm
Led by Sadayasihi and Varabandhu
Meditation is a means of transforming the mind. It helps us change the way we relate to ourselves and the world around us.
On this course we teach two meditation techniques, which consist of simple but effective practices drawn from the Buddhist tradition and were originally taught by the Buddha himself. They complement each other and can be learned by anyone, and you don’t have to be a Buddhist to benefit from them!
For more on meditation, mindfulness and loving-kindness, see our meditation page.
Over the five weeks we will cover:
Meditation & Mindfulness
- What is Meditation?
- Introduction to Mindfulness
- Meditation Posture
- The Mindfulness of Breathing
- Exploring Aspects of Mindfulness
- The Development of Loving-Kindness
- Working with the Mind: Distraction and Absorption
- Taking Meditation into the World
- Mindfulness and Loving-Kindness off the Cushion

Sadayasihi learned to meditate in 2007 in the Dublin Buddhist Centre while she was training to be a solicitor, having had an interest in Buddhism since she was a teenager.
She was ordained in 2016 and is the Chair of the DBC, as well as leading a study group and teaching classes.
Varabandhu first came through the doors of the Dublin Buddhist Centre in March 2012 to learn to meditate as a response to suffering. He soon found that regularly practicing meditation positively transformed his mind and his life and in 2014 he became a committed Buddhist. Seven years later he deepened that commitment by being ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order.
Varabandhu has been leading meditation courses and Buddhist study groups since 2021. He works as a full time journalist, volunteering his spare time to teach at the Dublin Buddhist Centre so that others can benefit in the same way he has.
Suitable for: Anyone interested in learning how to practice Buddhist Meditation.
No experience of meditation is necessary.
If you have done some meditation before (as most people have) you will benefit from this thorough training in the art of meditation.
