Living in an Alive Universe
Interfusing Our Inner and Outer Worlds
March Sangha Weekend Retreat
Friday 14th – Monday 17th March 2025
Led by Vajrashura, Sadayasihi, and Satyaprapta
…the division between inner and outer worlds is a product of dualistic thinking. Rather than any division between a thing called matter and a thing called mind, or a thing called body and a thing called consciousness, there is a continuity running all the way through, a continuity of our awareness patterned in different ways. If we can really understand this, those inner and outer worlds become interfused in a deeper, more meaningful vision of what it is to be alive.
– Sangharakshita, Living with Awareness.
In Living with Awareness, Sangharakshita comments that to see the universe as dead prevents us from any chance of attaining Enlightenment. Instead, we need to somehow develop a real feeling for the life of things – both inside and outside us – even if our sophisticated modern viewpoints hinder us in this. The Buddha’s whole life and teachings came while he lived in the midst of the trees and jungle – you could even say Buddhism emerges from a healthy positive animism.
This long weekend will be dedicated to intensive meditation practice, ritual, input on opening to both inner and outer worlds, and exploring how we can get a real feeling for a vision of a universe filled with significance – where our outer and inner worlds are richly interfused.
We will practice in the beautiful venue of Mucklagh, Co. Wicklow – taking the chance to shed our preconceived ideas of Dharma practice and experience something of the wonder of a newly Enlightened Buddha.
