Sangha Day Festival
Sunday 17th November 2024, 10am – 5pm
Led by the DBC Team
A source of inspiration, joy and encouragement, the Sangha, one of the three Jewels of Buddhism, was for Sangharakshita (the founder of the Triratna Buddhist Community) central to establishing a living, breathing Buddhist tradition here in the West.
So on this festival day we celebrate the Spiritual Community by coming together to practice meditation, mantra chanting, ritual and devotion, while also enjoying time spent with fellow Buddhists as we journey together towards the shared goal of Enlightenment. This year we will be hearing from three sangha members who will give short personal talks about what ‘Sangha’ is like in the context of their own lives.
We will have a shared lunch from 1pm – 2.15pm. Please bring vegetarian lunch to share if you can.
After lunch there will be a special ‘Sangha Metta Bhavana’ meditation and the day will finish with a mitra ceremony. Becoming a mitra is a deepening of friendship with the Triratna Buddhist Community, which can occur when your commitment to its ideals, values and practices has reached a certain level – and is a significant step in our spiritual lives, so it is witnessed in a public ceremony. All are welcome to attend.
(If you’d like to know more about becoming a mitra, you can read this document online A Guide to Becoming a Mitra in the Triratna Buddhist Community.)
Please join us in-person at the DBC for this festival day, no need to book in advance. All welcome.
