DBC Parents' Sangha Event
Wednesday 26th November 2025, 7.30pm – 9pm
Led by the DBC Parents’ Sangha
For this session, we’ll be exploring aspects of the talk “Fifteen Points for Buddhist Parents” by Sangharakshita, the founder of the Triratna Buddhist Community.
In the talk, he explores topics such as: Should you teach your child Buddhism? Should you restrict their TV? How do you let them go when it’s time? What to do if you’ve made mistakes?
We’ll use this talk as a starting point for reflection and discussion. While Sangharakshita wasn’t a parent himself, and some of his points may sound old fashioned now, many points remain pertinent and we have found they spark a lively discussion in the past!
The transcript of the talk and the talk itself are available here on Free Buddhist Audio. You’re welcome to read / listen to the whole piece (it’s quite short), but for this meeting we’ll focus on the first five points he makes, so we can explore them more deeply together:
- Remember you are a Buddhist first and a parent second
- Don’t be afraid to teach your children Buddhism
- Realise that you are up against it
- Join a parent–teacher organisation
- Communicate with your children
We look forward to reconnecting with each other and an evening of shared experience and lively discussion.
