Conflict, violence and hatred that we can see in the world today can cause us to respond in two ways. We can end up feeling overwhelmed and helpless by the suffering and inhumanity or we can react with rage. Buddhism teaches that neither of these are helpful and that hatred can only be conquered by love and awareness.
The Buddha taught that the first thing we have to do to create a world that operates on the basis of wisdom and compassion is to transform our own minds.
On this day we will be meditating together for world peace at the Dublin Portal at the same time that Buddhists in Ipswich will be meditating in front of the portal in their city.
Starting at 2pm and then at half-hourly intervals until 4pm, we will cultivate kindness, compassion, and connection through a series of guided Metta Bhavana (loving-kindness) meditations, interspersed with periods of chanting.
Participation is open to all and free of charge. Please bring your own stool or folding chair.
