SUMMARY:Dharma Day Festival
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 26th July 2026\, 10am – 5pm \nLed by the Saddhajaya \nJoin us for this festival day as we celebrate the Dharma\, the teaching of the Buddha. \nOn or near the full moon in July every year we recollect and honour the Dharma. This is a joyous time for Buddhists worldwide as we remember that all our practices stem from the momentous moment that the Buddha’s experience of Enlightenment was communicated and understood by one of his followers. This happened in India over 2\,500 years ago\, however the Dharma continued to be expressed and understood again and again throughout history. \nThis year\, through meditation\, readings\, talks and ritual\, we will bath ourselves in the great and vast ocean of the Dharma\, as well connect with others in the Sangha. \nWe look forward to seeing you there! Please bring along some vegetarian lunch to share if you can. \nLocation: Dublin Buddhist Centre\nAddress:\nUnit 5\, Liberty Corner \nJames Joyce Street\,\nDublin\nD01 N5H6\nIreland\n+ Google Map \nPhone:\n\n(01) 817 8933 \nView Venue Website \n\n\n\n\nAdd to calendar \n \n\nGoogle Calendar\niCalendar\nOutlook 365\nOutlook Live\n\n\n\n\nAlternative Friday Night – An Under-30 Event \n\nSummer Sangha Retreat \n\n\nSEE ALL EVENTS

SUMMARY:Summer Sangha Retreat - The Lotus and the Vajra
DESCRIPTION:Summer Sangha Retreat\nThe Lotus & the Vajra\nThursday 30th July – Monday 3rd August 2026 \nLed by Vajrashura & Sanghashura \n \n What will be explored?\n \n \n When and where\n \n \n Who is this retreat for?\n \n \n The retreat leaders\n \n \n What people enjoy most\n \n \n The food\n \n \n How to get there\n \n \n Accommodation\n \n \n Booking Terms & Conditions\n \n \n Booking information\n \nOn this long holiday weekend retreat\, we will be exploring the delicate relationship between activity and receptivity in order to give balance and harmony to our practice both on and off the meditation cushion.  \nThe active dimension of our practice – the vajra quality – is the effort to cultivate awareness\, kindness\, and other positive states of mind. Our practice also involves cultivating a non-directed open awareness of whatever happens to be arising in our experience – the lotus quality. \nAn appropriate balance between vajra and lotus can bring deeper levels of stillness\, creativity\, emotional positivity and insight.  \nThis retreat\, led by Vajrashura and Sanghashura\, will include meditation practice and instruction\, and inspiring Dharma talks. The ritual element of the retreat will involve introducing and invoking the magical figure of Padmasambhava\, the lotus-born one. \nAll this will take place in our lovely new Shubha Vihara retreat centre in Tipperary’s lovely countryside. As always there will also be plenty of time to enjoy the magical countryside and good company! So do think of joining us for this bank holiday weekend. \nWhen\n4 Nights \nThursday 30th July – Monday 3rd August 2026 \nWhere\nThis retreat will take place in our very own retreat centre Shubha Vihara\, in Ballycorrigan\, Ballina\, Co. Tipperary. It’s approximately 2 hour’s drive from Dublin City. See below for a Google Map. \nThis retreat is for Sangha regulars who have a regular meditation practice of the Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana. \n \n \nVajrashura started practicing yoga and learnt to meditate while in university doing a Masters in High Performance Computing. He firstly did these through university societies\, and then in the Dublin Buddhist Centre. He has worked as part of the Centre Team since 2002 and in 2007 he joined the Triratna Buddhist Order. \nSince ordination\, he’s been one of the DBC’s main teachers\, leading many courses\, retreats\, and events each year\, and is concerned with helping people go more deeply into meditation and Buddhism. He also is helping coordinate the new retreat centre project and looks after the DBC finances. \n \nSanghashura began a practice of mindfulness and meditation while studying cello at the Royal College of Music in London. This interest quite naturally led him to Buddhism and in 1992 he became a regular attendee of the West London Buddhist Centre. \nAfter being ordained in 2005\, Sanghashura started teaching men and women to meditate in Killaloe\, Co. Clare\, introducing them to the wider context of the Triratna Buddhist Community. He is the founder and manager of the Killaloe Meditation Group. \nWe asked previous retreat participants what the highlights were for them. They answered: \n\nMeeting others on the retreat\nThe meditation\nThe walking meditation\nThe food\nThe chance to reflect and be in nature\n\nAll dishes are vegan\, but don’t let that put you off. We’ve astounded by many omnivores on our retreats who admitted they had no idea vegan food could be so tasty and filling! \nEvery meal is cooked from scratch\, and there is always enough for second helpings. No one ever goes hungry on our retreats. \nShubha Vihara is an approximately 2 hour and 15 minute drive from Dublin City Centre. \nFor most retreats\, we organise a car-sharing list so that people travelling from the same area can connect. If you need a lift or can offer one\, simply let us know when you book. While we can’t guarantee a lift\, car sharing is often possible and is a lovely way to begin your retreat in the spirit of friendship and community. \nShubha Vihara is also accessible by public transport. The simplest route is to take a coach to Limerick and from there take Bus Éireann Route 323 to Ballina. By prior arrangement\, we can usually organise collection from Ballina\, making the final part of your journey to the retreat centre straightforward. \nWhat to Expect\nAll bedrooms are shared with fellow participants\, typically with three to five retreatants per room. There are no single rooms at this venue. \nSharing a room is a meaningful aspect of the retreat. Many find it enriching to live simply alongside others\, fostering a quiet sense of connection\, mutual support\, and community. This spirit of shared living reflects some key elements of Buddhist practice — simplicity\, awareness of others\, and compassion. \n									 A €75 deposit per person of this payment is non-refundable under all circumstances. If you wish to cancel or transfer a booking please notify us as soon as possible at info@dublinbuddhistcentre.org Cancellation: \n\nIf you wish to cancel your place more than 14 days prior to the retreat starting\, a full refund minus the deposit will be offered.\nIf cancellation occurs within 14 days of the retreat starting no refund will be available.\n\nTransfers \n\nAt least 14 days before the retreat starts: we will transfer your place to another residential retreat if there are places available on the alternative residential retreat.\n14 days or less before the retreat starts: we may be able to transfer your place to another residential retreat if there are places available on the alternative residential retreat and we can fill your place on the original retreat.\nIf the residential retreat you wish to transfer to costs more than your original booking you will need to pay the difference at the time of transferring in order to secure your place.\nWe will refund the difference if the residential retreat you wish to transfer to costs less than the original booking.\nWe will only transfer a booking once and no transfer will be possible once a residential retreat has started.\n\n  \nThis retreat is for people who are familiar with the meditation practices as taught in our community and\, ideally\, who have been on retreat with us before. \nCost\nWe do tiered pricing\, depending on the circumstances. \n\n€385 waged\n€340 low-waged\n€275 unwaged or student\n\nYou can pay a deposit of €75 to secure your place. \nOn this long holiday weekend retreat\, we will be exploring the delicate relationship between activity and receptivity in order to give balance and harmony to our practice both on and off the meditation cushion.  \nhttps://www.youtube.com/shorts/zaZt5jdD9_0 \nThe active dimension of our practice – the vajra quality – is the effort to cultivate awareness\, kindness\, and other positive states of mind. The retreat starts at 6pm on Friday and ends around 2pm on Sunday. \nWhere\nThis retreat will take place in our very own retreat centre Shubha Vihara\, in Ballycorrigan\, Ballina\, Co. Tipperary. It’s a 2 hour drive from Dublin City. See below for a Google Map. \nOur meditation weekend retreat is suitable for people who want to have a deeper taste of what meditation can offer. \nSo if you’re \n\n…a complete beginner who want to learn to meditate\n…a meditator with some experience who’ve never been on retreat before\n…an existing meditator who want to deepen their meditation practice in the perfect conditions that a retreat can offer\n\nthen come along for this stimulating and inspiring weekend retreat! \n \n \nSadayasihi\nSadayasihi learned to meditate in 2007 in the Dublin Buddhist Centre while she was training to be a solicitor\, having had an interest in Buddhism since she was a teenager. She was ordained in 2016 and is current chair of the charity that runs the DBC\, as well as leading a study group and teaching classes. \n \n \nJnanalila\nJnanalila first learned to meditate in 2010 at the Dublin Buddhist Centre. The benefits of meditation quickly became evident\, not only in her well-being\, but also in her relationships with friends and family. In 2013\, she ceremoniously declared herself a Buddhist\, and in 2024\, she was ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order. \nWe asked previous retreat participants what the highlights were for them. They answered: \n\nA chance to escape the noise and complexity of modern life\nMeeting others on the retreat\nA simple life with a daily programme to follow\nThe food!\nA chance to reflect on things\nGreat instruction on meditation\n\n Our retreats are known for being friendly\, inspiring\, and enjoyable. \nAll dishes are vegan\, but don’t let that put you off. We’ve astounded by many omnivores on our retreats who admitted they had no idea vegan food could be so tasty and filling! \nEvery meal is cooked from scratch\, and there is always enough for second helpings. No one ever goes hungry on our retreats. \nThe retreat is a brilliant way to deepen your meditation after the intro to meditation course. Restful and insightful. Highly recommended!   – Rick \nThe most worthwhile thing I’ve done in a long time.   – Hugh \nIf you want to get off the motorway of modern life for a while and park somewhere quiet to reflect and review the direction you are taking in your journey… A retreat with the Dublin Buddhist Centre can offer you a change of oil\, new spark plugs\, a cleaner windscreen\, tightened suspension and quite possibly update your Sat-nav so that you may finally know where you are going.   – Colin \nShubha Vihara is an approximately 2 hour and 15 minute drive from Dublin City Centre. \nCost\nWe do tiered pricing\, depending on the circumstances. \n€295 waged€260 low waged€215 unwagedYou can pay a deposit of €75 to secure your place. \nA €75 deposit per person of this payment is non-refundable under all circumstances.\n \nIf you wish to cancel or transfer a booking please notify us as soon as possible at info@dublinbuddhistcentre.org\n \nCancellation: \n\n\nIf you wish to cancel your place more than 14 days prior to the retreat starting\, a full refund minus the deposit will be offered.\n\nIf cancellation occurs within 14 days of the retreat starting no refund will be available.\n\nTransfers \n\n\nAt least 14 days before the retreat starts: we will transfer your place to another residential retreat if there are places available on the alternative residential retreat.\n\n14 days or less before the retreat starts: we may be able to transfer your place to another residential retreat if there are places available on the alternative residential retreat and we can fill your place on the original retreat.\n\nIf the residential retreat you wish to transfer to costs more than your original booking you will need to pay the difference at the time of transferring in order to secure your place.\n\nWe will refund the difference if the residential retreat you wish to transfer to costs less than the original booking.\n\nWe will only transfer a booking once and no transfer will be possible once a residential retreat has started.\n\nWhat to Expect\nAll bedrooms are shared with fellow participants\, typically with three to five retreatants per room. \nCurious about retreats? And how to meditate effectively? While we can’t guarantee a lift\, car sharing is often possible and is a lovely way to begin your retreat in the spirit of friendship and community. \nShubha Vihara is also accessible by public transport. The simplest route is to take a coach to Limerick and from there take Bus Éireann Route 323 to Ballina. By prior arrangement\, we can usually organise collection from Ballina\, making the final part of your journey to the retreat centre straightforward. \n BOOK NOW \n\n	Location: Shubha Vihara\n\n	Address:\n\nBallycorrigan\n \n Ballina\,\n	Co. We all want to live a valuable and fulfilling life. SUMMARY:September Sangha Retreat
DESCRIPTION:September Sangha Retreat\n3 Nights\, Thursday 24th – Sunday 27th September 2026 \nLed by Vajrashura and Subhadramati \n \n What will be explored?\n \n \n When and where\n \n \n Who is this retreat for?\n \n \n The retreat leaders\n \n \n What people enjoy most\n \n \n The food\n \n \n How to get there\n \n \n Booking information\n \n \n Accommodation\n \n \n Booking Terms & Conditions\n \n“A retreat involves a number of people going to a beautiful\, quiet place in the country for a weekend\, or a week\, or a month… Except for taking turns at cooking\, washing dishes\, or perhaps some gardening\, the participants do not work. Instead they meditate perhaps three or four times a day\, they chant together\, they take part in pujas\, they listen to talks\, and they have discussions or study Buddhist texts. In other words\, for a time the conditions under which people live are changed; they are provided with conditions that are more conducive to personal development. And in these improved conditions\, people change.” Sangharakshita\, Complete Works\, Vol. 11. \nJoin us for a long weekend retreat at Shubha Vihara\, the abode of beauty –  where we will experience the life-changing nature of retreats through talks\, reflections\, meditations\, ritual\, silence and friendship. \nTheme to be announced closer to the time. \nWhen\nFriday 25th to Sunday 27th September 2026 \nWhere\nThis retreat will take place in our very own retreat centre Shubha Vihara\, in Ballycorrigan\, Ballina\, Co. Tipperary. It’s approximately 2 hour’s drive from Dublin City. See below for a Google Map. \nThis retreat is for Sangha regulars and people who have a meditation practice of the Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana meditation practices. \n \n \nVajrashura\n \nSubhadramati\n The retreat will be led by Vajrashura and Subhadramati \nWe asked previous retreat participants what the highlights were for them. \nCost\nWe do tiered pricing\, depending on the circumstances. \n\n€340 waged\n€300 low-waged\n€240 unwaged or student\n\nYou can pay a deposit of €75 to secure your place. If you wish to cancel or transfer a booking please notify us as soon as possible at info@dublinbuddhistcentre.org Cancellation: \n\nIf you wish to cancel your place more than 14 days prior to the retreat starting\, a full refund minus the deposit will be offered.\nIf cancellation occurs within 14 days of the retreat starting no refund will be available.\n\nTransfers \n\nAt least 14 days before the retreat starts: we will transfer your place to another residential retreat if there are places available on the alternative residential retreat.\n14 days or less before the retreat starts: we may be able to transfer your place to another residential retreat if there are places available on the alternative residential retreat and we can fill your place on the original retreat.\nIf the residential retreat you wish to transfer to costs more than your original booking you will need to pay the difference at the time of transferring in order to secure your place.\nWe will refund the difference if the residential retreat you wish to transfer to costs less than the original booking.\nWe will only transfer a booking once and no transfer will be possible once a residential retreat has started.\n\n“A retreat involves a number of people going to a beautiful\, quiet place in the country for a weekend\, or a week\, or a month… Except for taking turns at cooking\, washing dishes\, or perhaps some gardening\, the participants do not work. \nWhen\nFriday 23rd to Monday 26th October 2026 \nWhere\nThis retreat will take place in our very own retreat centre Shubha Vihara\, in Ballycorrigan\, Ballina\, Co. SUMMARY:Weekend Retreat for Women
DESCRIPTION:Weekend Retreat for Women\nFriday 13th – Sunday 15th November 2026 \nLed by Atulyamitra and Sadayasihi \n \n What will be explored?\n \n \n When and Where\n \n \n Who is this retreat for?\n \n \n The retreat leaders\n \n \n What people enjoy most\n \n \n The food\n \n \n How to get there\n \n \n Booking information\n \n \n Accommodation\n \nJoin us on this weekend retreat for women led by Atulyamitra and Sadayasihi. This retreat will be an excellent opportunity to connect with other women and to immerse yourself in ideal conditions for meditation and Dharma practice\, guided by experienced teachers. \nThe theme for the retreat will be announced closer to the time. \nWhen\nFriday 13th – Sunday 15th November 2026 \nWhere\nThis retreat will take place in our very own retreat centre Shubha Vihara\, in Ballycorrigan\, Ballina\, Co. Tipperary. It’s approximately 2 hour’s drive from Dublin City. See below for a Google Map. \nThis retreat is for women who have an established practice of the Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana meditations. \n \n \nAtulyamitra learned to meditate over 30 years ago and has had a meditation practice most of her adult life. She became a committed Buddhist in 2012 and was ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order in 2018. She is now the Women’s Mitra Convenor\, meaning that she takes particular responsibility for looking after the needs of women who have made a definite commitment to the Buddhist Path. \n \n \nSadayasihi learned to meditate in 2007 in the Dublin Buddhist Centre while she was training to be a solicitor\, having had an interest in Buddhism since she was a teenager. She was ordained in 2016 and is current chair of the charity that runs the DBC\, as well as leading a study group and teaching classes. \nWe asked previous retreat participants what the highlights were for them. They answered: \n\nMeeting others on the retreat\nThe meditation\nThe food\nThe chance to reflect\n\nAll dishes are vegan\, but don’t let that put you off. \nCost\nWe do tiered pricing\, depending on the circumstances. \n\n€280 waged\n€240 low-waged\n€200 unwaged or student\n\nWhat to Expect\nAll bedrooms are shared with fellow participants\, typically with three to five retreatants per room. \nJoin us on this weekend retreat for women led by Atulyamitra and Sadayasihi. There are no single rooms at this venue. \nSharing a room is a meaningful aspect of the retreat.
