What will be explored

Inexaustible Joy – Impermanence and Beauty in Kukai’s Letter to a Nobleman in Kyoto

You ask me why I entered the mountain deep and cold,
Awesome, surrounded by steep peaks and grotesque rocks,
A place that is painful to climb and difficult to descend,
Wherein reside the gods of the mountain and the spirits of trees.

On this Sangha night Prasannadeva will explore Kukai’s beautiful and profound poem ‘Letter to a Nobleman in Kyoto’ through the lens of impermanence and beauty, and we will explore how it is still relevant to us today over 1000 years after its composition.

Having just returned from a visit to Mount Koya where the poem was composed, Prasannadeva is still moved and inspired by the beauty and spiritual atmosphere of the place, and is excited to explore the themes of impermanence and beauty expressed throughout the poem.

Join us for what will be a fascinating exploration of this profound teaching.
