We’ve astounded by many omnivores on our retreats who admitted they had no idea vegan food could be so tasty and filling! \nEvery meal is cooked from scratch\, and there is always enough for second helpings. No one ever goes hungry on our retreats. \nThe retreat is a brilliant way to deepen your meditation after the intro to meditation course. Restful and insightful. Highly recommended!   – Rick \nThe most worthwhile thing I’ve done in a long time.   – Hugh \nIf you want to get off the motorway of modern life for a while and park somewhere quiet to reflect and review the direction you are taking in your journey… A retreat with the Dublin Buddhist Centre can offer you a change of oil\, new spark plugs\, a cleaner windscreen\, tightened suspension and quite possibly update your Sat-nav so that you may finally know where you are going.   – Colin \nShubha Vihara is an approximately 2 hour and 15 minute drive from Dublin City Centre. \nFor most retreats\, we organise a car-sharing list so that people travelling from the same area can connect. If you need a lift or can offer one\, simply let us know when you book. While we can’t guarantee a lift\, car sharing is often possible and is a lovely way to begin your retreat in the spirit of friendship and community. \nShubha Vihara is also accessible by public transport. The simplest route is to take a coach to Limerick and from there take Bus Éireann Route 323 to Ballina. By prior arrangement\, we can usually organise collection from Ballina\, making the final part of your journey to the retreat centre straightforward. \nCost\nWe do tiered pricing\, depending on the circumstances. \n€295 waged€260 low waged€215 unwagedYou can pay a deposit of €75 to secure your place. \nA €75 deposit per person of this payment is non-refundable under all circumstances.\n \nIf you wish to cancel or transfer a booking please notify us as soon as possible at info@dublinbuddhistcentre.org\n \nCancellation: \n\n\nIf you wish to cancel your place more than 14 days prior to the retreat starting\, a full refund minus the deposit will be offered.\n\nIf cancellation occurs within 14 days of the retreat starting no refund will be available.\n\nTransfers \n\n\nAt least 14 days before the retreat starts: we will transfer your place to another residential retreat if there are places available on the alternative residential retreat.\n\n14 days or less before the retreat starts: we may be able to transfer your place to another residential retreat if there are places available on the alternative residential retreat and we can fill your place on the original retreat.\n\nIf the residential retreat you wish to transfer to costs more than your original booking you will need to pay the difference at the time of transferring in order to secure your place.\n\nWe will refund the difference if the residential retreat you wish to transfer to costs less than the original booking.\n\nWe will only transfer a booking once and no transfer will be possible once a residential retreat has started.\n\nWhat to Expect\nAll bedrooms are shared with fellow participants\, typically with three to five retreatants per room. There are no single rooms at this venue. \nSharing a room is a meaningful aspect of the retreat. Many find it enriching to live simply alongside others\, fostering a quiet sense of connection\, mutual support\, and community. This spirit of shared living reflects some key elements of Buddhist practice — simplicity\, awareness of others\, and compassion. \nCurious about retreats? And how to meditate effectively? This introductory weekend is an ideal first taste. \nMeditation is a means of transforming the mind. It helps us change the way we relate to ourselves and the world around us. On a weekend retreat you can get a real taste of what meditation can offer. \nOn this weekend\, you will: \n\nDiscover the Buddhist approach to meditation.\nLearn or deepen two meditation practices: Mindfulness of Breathing and Cultivating Loving-Kindness\nEnjoy short periods of silence\, as well as free time for walks\, exercise\, or rest.\nBe part of a retreat community for the weekend.\n\nCome along and discover what’s possible with an effective and rich meditation practice! \nWhen\nFriday 11th – Sunday 13th September 2026. The retreat starts at 6pm on Friday and ends around 2pm on Sunday. \nWhere\nThis retreat will take place in our very own retreat centre Shubha Vihara\, in Ballycorrigan\, Ballina\, Co. Tipperary. It’s a 2 hour drive from Dublin City. See below for a Google Map. \nOur meditation weekend retreat is suitable for people who want to have a deeper taste of what meditation can offer. \nSo if you’re \n\n…a complete beginner who want to learn to meditate\n…a meditator with some experience who’ve never been on retreat before\n…an existing meditator who want to deepen their meditation practice in the perfect conditions that a retreat can offer\n\nthen come along for this stimulating and inspiring weekend retreat! \n \n \nSadayasihi\nSadayasihi learned to meditate in 2007 in the Dublin Buddhist Centre while she was training to be a solicitor\, having had an interest in Buddhism since she was a teenager. She was ordained in 2016 and is current chair of the charity that runs the DBC\, as well as leading a study group and teaching classes. \n \n \nJnanalila\nJnanalila first learned to meditate in 2010 at the Dublin Buddhist Centre. The benefits of meditation quickly became evident\, not only in her well-being\, but also in her relationships with friends and family. SUMMARY:The Journey and the Guide - Eight Week Buddhism Course
DESCRIPTION:The Journey and the Guide\nEight-Week Buddhism Course\nStarts Thursday 17th September 2026\, 7.30pm – 9.45pm \nLed by Vajrashura \n \n What will be explored?\n \n \n What’s covered on the 8 weeks\n \n \n When and where\n \n \n The Course Leader\n \n \n Who is this for\n \n \n Booking information\n \n \n Booking Terms & Conditions\n \nHow do we make the most of life? We all want to live a valuable and fulfilling life. We want our life to be our own\, not predictable\, boring or mapped out by others. \nIt is this kind of problem that the Buddha sought to solve\, firstly in his own life and then\, after Enlightenment\, in his teaching. \nOn this eight-week course you’ll be guided by the Buddha’s vision in an exploration of the fundamental issues of life\, facing up to them\, finding a way of overcoming them\, and uncovering your human potential. \nWe begin by cultivating a ‘fit’ mind\, as fitness is important for any journey. Then we permeate it with positive emotion\, so that we can face into challenges on the way. Then there is ‘spiritual death’ – letting go or going beyond that which restricts us. Finally\, we come to ‘spiritual rebirth’\, experiencing more and more what it is like to have a ‘Buddha mind’.  \nParticipants will receive Maitreyabandhu’s book The Journey and the Guide as part of the course. \n  \nOver the eight weeks we will cover: \n\nWeek 1: Introducing the Journey and the Guide.\nWeek 2: Supports for a ‘Fit Mind’.\nWeek 3: Positive Emotion: The Stage of Action.\nWeek 4: Positive Emotion: Other People.\nWeek 5: Spiritual Death.\nWeek 6: The View that Creates Itself.\nWeek 7: Spiritual Rebirth and Imagination.\nWeek 8: Shraddha: Imagination Looking Up.\n\n  \nWhen\nStarts Thursday 17th September 2026\, 7.30pm – 9.45pm | For eight weeks \nWhere\nDublin Buddhist CentreUnit 5\, Liberty CornerJames Joyce StreetDublin\, D01 N5H6 \n \n \nVajrashura started practicing yoga and learnt to meditate while in university doing a Masters in High Performance Computing. SUMMARY:Advice from the Revealer of Treasures - September Sangha Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Advice from the Revealer of Treasures\nSeptember Sangha Retreat\n3 Nights\, Thursday 24th – Sunday 27th September 2026 \nLed by Vajrashura and Subhadramati \n \n What will be explored?\n \n \n When and where\n \n \n Who is this retreat for?\n \n \n The retreat leaders\n \n \n What people enjoy most\n \n \n The food\n \n \n How to get there\n \n \n Booking information\n \n \n Accommodation\n \n \n Booking Terms & Conditions\n \nWhen the treasure of riches comes forth\, the treasure of the Dharma no longer has its place.  When the treasure of the Dharma comes forth\, the treasure of riches no longer has its place.  Both … cannot arise at the same time…  \nThe Dharma\, the teaching that leads to Enlightenment\, is the most precious treasure we can receive in life\, far better than any worldly gift. Originally given to us by the Buddha\, the wonders of the Dharma are made fresh again and again by new ‘treasure revealers’. \nGuru Padmasambhava is the archetypal revealer of Dharmic treasurers. Before his departure for Tibet\, the land of the ogres\, he gave advice to his disciples on how to live by the Dharma and continue to reveal it to the world. \nOn this autumn weekend retreat\, Subhadramati and Vajrashura will explore Padmasambhava’s advice – how we can live a rich and full life in the Dharma\, experience the treasures of the Dharma\, and bring them fully into the world to benefit all beings. \nWhen\nFriday 25th to Sunday 27th September 2026 \nWhere\nThis retreat will take place in our very own retreat centre Shubha Vihara\, in Ballycorrigan\, Ballina\, Co. Tipperary. It’s approximately 2 hour’s drive from Dublin City. See below for a Google Map. \nThis retreat is for Sangha regulars and people who have a meditation practice of the Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana meditation practices. \n \n \nVajrashura\n \nSubhadramati\n The retreat will be led by Vajrashura and Subhadramati \nWe asked previous retreat participants what the highlights were for them. They answered: \n\nMeeting others on the retreat\nThe meditation\nThe walking meditation\nThe food\nThe chance to reflect and be in nature\n\nAll dishes are vegan\, but don’t let that put you off. We’ve astounded by many omnivores on our retreats who admitted they had no idea vegan food could be so tasty and filling! \nEvery meal is cooked from scratch\, and there is always enough for second helpings. No one ever goes hungry on our retreats. \nShubha Vihara is an approximately 2 hour and 15 minute drive from Dublin City Centre. \n\n€340 waged\n€300 low-waged\n€240 unwaged or student\n\nYou can pay a deposit of €75 to secure your place. \nWhat to Expect\nAll bedrooms are shared with fellow participants\, typically with three to five retreatants per room. \n A €75 deposit per person of this payment is non-refundable under all circumstances. If you wish to cancel or transfer a booking please notify us as soon as possible at info@dublinbuddhistcentre.org Cancellation: \n\nIf you wish to cancel your place more than 14 days prior to the retreat starting\, a full refund minus the deposit will be offered.\nIf cancellation occurs within 14 days of the retreat starting no refund will be available.\n\nTransfers \n\nAt least 14 days before the retreat starts: we will transfer your place to another residential retreat if there are places available on the alternative residential retreat.\n14 days or less before the retreat starts: we may be able to transfer your place to another residential retreat if there are places available on the alternative residential retreat and we can fill your place on the original retreat.\nIf the residential retreat you wish to transfer to costs more than your original booking you will need to pay the difference at the time of transferring in order to secure your place.\nWe will refund the difference if the residential retreat you wish to transfer to costs less than the original booking.\nWe will only transfer a booking once and no transfer will be possible once a residential retreat has started.\n\nWhen the treasure of riches comes forth\, the treasure of the Dharma no longer has its place.  When the treasure of the Dharma comes forth\, the treasure of riches no longer has its place.  Both … cannot arise at the same time…  \nThe Dharma\, the teaching that leads to Enlightenment\, is the most precious treasure we can receive in life\, far better than any worldly gift. SUMMARY:Sailing the Worldly Winds - Five Week Buddhism Course
DESCRIPTION:Sailing the Worldly Winds\nFive Week Buddhism Course\nStarts Wednesday 7th October 2026\, 7.15pm – 9.30pm \nLed by Varabandhu and Satyaprapta \n \n What will be explored?\n \n \n When and Where\n \n \n The Course Leaders\n \n \n Who is this for\n \n \n Booking Information\n \n \n Booking Terms & Conditions\n \nThe Buddha’s teaching of the eight worldly winds describes how we are buffeted about while trying to make our way in the world. \nTossed about by these winds – gain and loss\, praise and blame\, pleasure and pain\, fame and disrepute – it is easy to lose all direction\, confidence\, and sense of purpose. \nThe Buddha had clear guidance on how to rise above these ‘worldly winds’ – facing them uncompromisingly\, and entering through the ‘doorways to freedom’ that allow us to become equanimous in the face of them. \nAnd when we do this and are no longer at the mercy of the worldly winds\, we are more able to live in tune with life’s deepest meaning. \nWhen\nStarts Wednesday 7th October 2026\, 7.15pm – 9.30pm | For 5 weeks \nWhere\nDublin Buddhist CentreUnit 5\, Liberty CornerJames Joyce StreetDublin\, D01 N5H6 \n \n \nVarabandhu first came through the doors of the Dublin Buddhist Centre in March 2012 to learn to meditate as a response to suffering. He soon found that regularly practicing meditation positively transformed his mind and his life and in 2014 he became a committed Buddhist. SUMMARY:Autumn Sangha Retreat - The Brahma Viharas
DESCRIPTION:The Brahmaviharas\nAutumn Sangha Retreat\n3 Nights\, Friday 23rd  – Monday 26th October 2026 \nLed by Vajrashura\, Sadayasihi\, and Jnanalila \n\nWhat will be explored?\n\n\nWhen and where\n\n\nWho is this retreat for?\n\n\nThe retreat leaders\n\n\nWhat people enjoy most\n\n\nThe food\n\n\nHow to get there\n\n\nBooking information\n\n\nAccommodation\n\n\nBooking Terms & Conditions\n \nOn this autumn retreat we’ll be exploring the Brahma Viharas\, the fundamental bases of positive emotion: metta\, compassion\, sympathetic joy\, and equanimity. \nThe common factor is metta\, loving-kindness – when it meets suffering\, it becomes compassion; when it meets happiness\, it becomes sympathetic joy; and when it is infused with wisdom\, it becomes deep and unshakable equanimity. \nThrough cultivating these wonderful qualities\, we will find that we can respond to anything life throws up with an open and responsive heart\, unlimited by any negative responses. \nThey are described as being like ‘dwelling in heaven’ as they imbue our world with colour\, aliveness\, and love\, and we can even feel in touch with the unlimited heart of the Buddha himself. \nWhen\nFriday 23rd to Monday 26th October 2026 \nWhere\nThis retreat will take place in our very own retreat centre Shubha Vihara\, in Ballycorrigan\, Ballina\, Co. Tipperary. It’s approximately 2 hour’s drive from Dublin City. See below for a Google Map. \nThis retreat is for Sangha regulars and people who have a meditation practice of the Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana meditation practices. \n\n \nVajrashura\n\n \nSadayasihi\n\n \nSadayasihi\nThe retreat will be led by Vajrashura\, Sadayasihi\, and Jnanalila \nWe asked previous retreat participants what the highlights were for them. \n\n€340 waged\n€300 low-waged\n€240 unwaged or student\n\nYou can pay a deposit of €75 to secure your place. \nWhat to Expect\nAll bedrooms are shared with fellow participants\, typically with three to five retreatants per room. \nA €75 deposit per person of this payment is non-refundable under all circumstances. If you wish to cancel or transfer a booking please notify us as soon as possible at info@dublinbuddhistcentre.org Cancellation: \n\nIf you wish to cancel your place more than 14 days prior to the retreat starting\, a full refund minus the deposit will be offered.\nIf cancellation occurs within 14 days of the retreat starting no refund will be available.\n\nTransfers \n\nAt least 14 days before the retreat starts: we will transfer your place to another residential retreat if there are places available on the alternative residential retreat.\n14 days or less before the retreat starts: we may be able to transfer your place to another residential retreat if there are places available on the alternative residential retreat and we can fill your place on the original retreat.\nIf the residential retreat you wish to transfer to costs more than your original booking you will need to pay the difference at the time of transferring in order to secure your place.\nWe will refund the difference if the residential retreat you wish to transfer to costs less than the original booking.\nWe will only transfer a booking once and no transfer will be possible once a residential retreat has started.\n\nOn this autumn retreat we’ll be exploring the Brahma Viharas\, the fundamental bases of positive emotion: metta\, compassion\, sympathetic joy\, and equanimity. This spirit of shared living reflects some key elements of Buddhist practice — simplicity\, awareness of others\, and compassion. \nJoin us on this weekend retreat for women led by Atulyamitra and Sadayasihi. This retreat will be an excellent opportunity to connect with other women and to immerse yourself in ideal conditions for meditation and Dharma practice\, guided by experienced teachers. \nThe theme for the retreat will be announced closer to the time. \nWhen\nFriday 13th – Sunday 15th November 2026 \nWhere\nThis retreat will take place in our very own retreat centre Shubha Vihara\, in Ballycorrigan\, Ballina\, Co. Tipperary. It’s approximately 2 hour’s drive from Dublin City. See below for a Google Map. \nThis retreat is for women who have an established practice of the Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana meditations. \n \n \nAtulyamitra learned to meditate over 30 years ago and has had a meditation practice most of her adult life. She became a committed Buddhist in 2012 and was ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order in 2018. She is now the Women’s Mitra Convenor\, meaning that she takes particular responsibility for looking after the needs of women who have made a definite commitment to the Buddhist Path. \n \n \nSadayasihi learned to meditate in 2007 in the Dublin Buddhist Centre while she was training to be a solicitor\, having had an interest in Buddhism since she was a teenager. She was ordained in 2016 and is current chair of the charity that runs the DBC\, as well as leading a study group and teaching classes. \nWe asked previous retreat participants what the highlights were for them. They answered: \n\nMeeting others on the retreat\nThe meditation\nThe food\nThe chance to reflect\n\nAll dishes are vegan\, but don’t let that put you off. \n\n€280 waged\n€240 low-waged\n€200 unwaged or student\n\nWhat to Expect\nAll bedrooms are shared with fellow participants\, typically with three to five retreatants per room. There are no single rooms at this venue. \nSharing a room is a meaningful aspect of the retreat.
