Many people today are looking not just to meditation and mindfulness for answers to life’s deeper questions and challenges, but to the spiritual tradition from which they come – Buddhism.

This course offers an introduction to the principles and practices of Buddhism including thorough instruction in meditation and mindfulness.

These practices will be taught in the context of ethics, wisdom teachings and community that together make up the Buddhist path to happiness, freedom and creativity.

There are two main meditation practices introduced on the course. The first is the Mindfulness of Breathing which fosters a serene, aware, focused state of mind. It helps us to get beyond our habitual mental chatter and listen to deeper sources of inspiration and wisdom that lie within.

The Metta Bhavana, or Development of Loving Kindness, helps us to develop deep solidarity with other living beings and leave behind harmful emotions.

The ethical teachings we will explore on the course are concerned with extending these two qualities, kindness and awareness, into our daily lives. By looking at what we say and do from the Buddhist perspective, we can find ways of living a more meaningful and creative life. A life that contributes to the overall happiness in the world without the idea of god.

Engaging with spiritual community plays a key role in the Buddhist path and we will be exploring its significance as a source of guidance and inspiration.

This course is suitable for all levels of experience and interest.

The course is accompanied by the book Change Your Mind by Paramananda and you can purchase it online from Windhorse Publications in either paperback or in ebook format.

This course is offered as an in-person course as well as an online course. While all of our events are offered on a donation basis, to attend our courses in-person we ask for a deposit of €30 to secure a place as space is limited.

All our events are offered for free but you might consider making a donation to help us to continue to provide classes.

Suitable for: Anyone interested in learning about Buddhism and how to meditate.
