SUMMARY:Culture Night 2025
DESCRIPTION:Culture Night 2025 \n \n \n \n Friday 19th September 2025\, 4pm – 10pm \n \n \n \n Led by members of the DBC Sangha \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What is Culture Night? \n \n \n \n When and where \n \n \n \n Schedule for the night \n \n \n \n Who is this for \n \n \n \n Booking information \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Culture Night comprises hundreds of events across Ireland and overseas. From the nation’s capital to county town\, arts and cultural organisations will open their online doors until late\, with hundreds of free events\, tours\, talks and performances for you\, your family and friends to enjoy. Once again the DBC will be participating in Culture Night and will be running an exciting programme of events for the occasion. Wherever in the world Buddhism has been practised\, over its 2\,500 year history\, there has been a dialogue between the essential spiritual aspects of the tradition and elements of the local culture. We are in a fascinating phase of Buddhist history where\, for the first time\, there is a meeting of this tradition with modern western culture. On Culture Night we will be exploring aspects of this cultural interchange as well as providing an opportunity to learn meditation and yoga. For more information on events in our area\, see the Culture Night Dublin Website. \n \n \n \n \n \n WhenFriday 19th September 2025. 4pm – Mandala Making Workshop 5.15pm – Meditation Workshop – The Mindfulness of Breathing 6.30pm – Meditation Workshop – The Cultivation of Loving Kindness 7.45pm – Glimpses of Buddhism in Myanmar 9pm – Mantra Chanting Workshop WhereDublin Buddhist CentreUnit 5\, Liberty CornerJames Joyce StreetDublin\, D01 N5H6 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Note that no booking is required for any of these events. You are warmly invited to join us for this any or all of our events. All these events are in-person only. 4pm – Mandala Making WorkshopA mandala is a geometric design\, meaning ‘circle’\, which symbolises the Buddhist universe and is used as an aid to meditation. Working with mandalas can be a creative way to come into harmony with oneself\, with others and with the environment. Join the Dublin Buddhist Centre in exploring this ancient Buddhist art form as they co-create a mandala using materials gathered from nature and\, when it is complete\, release it back into nature. Bring along any natural found objects such as flowers\, leaves\, leaves\, pebbles\, shells\, feathers etc. that you would like to incorporate into the mandala. Spaces are limited and offered on a first come first served basis. 5.15pm – Meditation Workshop – The Mindfulness of BreathingMeditation is a means of transforming the mind and it can help us to better appreciate ourselves\, other people\, and the beauty of the world around us. Central to the practice of meditation is mindfulness. In this one-hour workshop\, visitors to the Dublin Buddhist Centre will be briefly introduced to one of the fundamental Buddhist meditation practices: the Mindfulness of Breathing. 6.30pm – Meditation Workshop – The Cultivation of Loving KindnessTogether with mindfulness\, Metta\, meaning ‘loving-kindness’\, is a core part of Buddhist meditation. By cultivating Metta we can grow out of self-centredness and emotional negativity\, and into being able to have harmonious and satisfying relationships with other people\, as well as with ourselves. In this one-hour workshop\, visitors to the Dublin Buddhist Centre will be introduced to the Metta Bhavana meditation practice as a way of cultivating states of emotional positivity and freedom of heart and mind. 7.45pm – The Art of Pilgrimage: Travels Around Japan and IndiaThroughout history\, wherever the Buddha’s teachings have taken root\, they’ve interwoven with local cultures to create richly diverse expressions of Buddhist art\, architecture\, and symbolism. From the stūpas of India to the Zen temples of Japan\, pilgrimage offers a way to connect with these living traditions. On this event\, Sadayasihi and Prasannadeva will share their personal journeys through the sacred landscapes of India and Japan. Drawing on their experiences\, they will explore different approaches to Buddhist pilgrimage and will reflect on how the ideals of Buddhism are uniquely expressed in each culture. 9pm – Mantra Chanting WorkshopIn the Buddhist tradition\, mantras are words or phrases that are chanted as objects of meditation and expressions of devotion. Sacred sound symbols\, they invoke qualities of the enlightened mind and bring us in touch with our highest potential. Join the Dublin Buddhist Centre Mantra Circle as they explore how the practice of mantra can help to calm the mind and open the heart. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Suitable for:  Anyone curious about what Buddhism or meditation is and what we have to offer here at the DBC. \n \n \n \n \n \n No need to book in advance\, just show up before one of the sessions.
